24 Fort Worth bands all showed up at the same spot January 28th. Not literally, of course – but their work did. The Fort Worth Music Co-op sent their Compilation, Volume 1 to Bottle Tree Media House for pressing, with the finished CDs expected to arrive in 4-6 weeks. The Co-op intends the collection of tracks from local artists to establish the quality of the music made in Fort Worth,
for music critics and fans both inside and outside the city. It also provides an exceptionally diverse and listenable album for those who simply want to enjoy the music.
Acts including Eaton Lake Tonics, Luke Wade & No Civilians, and the Cush contributed songs to the compendium, which features all manner of styles and instruments.
A committee of Co-op members, including Stephen Tall, Randy Brown, Taylor Smith, Sloan Clark, and Irv Jones, solicited and selected the tracks from more than 75 submissions. Eagle Audio mastered the final selections into their final form. Peter Thomas produced the cover art, which features FW Music Co-Op logos & branding.
The Fort Worth Music Co-op Compilation Volume 1 will be for sale from the Coop, member bands, at various online sources, and fwmusiccoop.com. Proceeds benefit the Co-op and will be used to further its mission. The Fort Worth Music Co-op offers those involved or interested in music an opportunity to contribute to making the city’s music scene a vibrant one. The group of local musicians and others involved in music aim to make Fort Worth one of the nation's foremost music cities - a destination for musicians and musiclovers to gather and share their art.

Compilation Team Close to Final Selection |

As mentioned in some previous posts, the Compilation CD selection process has been tremendously exciting and a huge challenge. We received more than 85 tracks for consideration, with more than five hours of running time. We are trying to squeeze that into a standard CD - 80 minutes?
This past Tuesday our team convened at Sloan's house for another long listening session. Most of the material is good for public consumption - the quality and diversity is truly impressive. Some of the material needs better production or recording, but the underlying music is really good original stuff, and I definitely want to see the artists performing live.
Here's where we stand as of this morning:
- we have narrowed our selections to 27 tracks with a running time of 95 minutes
- we are now trying to identify 4 or 5 tracks that will have to be cut to fit our final selection
- there are another 35+ tracks that we argued over, but had to be set aside
We concluded that we will want to somehow get public exposure for the material that was not selected for the CD. We are discussing numerous options including:
- another compilation in the near future;
- putting a number of worthy additional tracks online (with the artists permission, of course); and/or,
- starting to release a 'Track of the Week' online.
Stay tuned. I promise the Compilation CD will be worth the wait, and will most certainly make Fort Worth proud of its local music scene! |

Cooperatives are member-owned nonprofit organizations that conduct business to serve the needs of their members and communities. The Fort Worth Music Co-op is operated in accordance with cooperative principles, including the following: (a) Open and voluntary membership without artificial restriction or arbitrary discrimination; (b) Democratic governance with equal voting rights among members and opportunity for participation in important decisions affecting the Co-op; (c) Autonomy and independence of the Co-op as a self-help organization controlled by its members; (d) Education of members and the general public in the principles of cooperation; (e) Cooperation with other cooperative organizations; and (f) Participation in activities that contribute to the sustainable development of the community.
Cooperatives are operated on a nonprofit basis. That is, they generally will only make enough revenue to cover their expenses. If any money is left over at the end of the year, it is either saved to use in the future to develop the co-op, given to a charity, or paid to members as a dividend.
More general information about cooperatives can be found at www.ncba.coop. |
